This slide presentation outlines a study on size exclusion chromatorgraphy as a tool to detect fouling of low pressure microfiltration (MF) membranes. It begins by outlining the Myponga and Woronora water sources in Australia and then outlines pretreatment topics that include: materials; initial water quality parameters of both the Myponga and theWoronora; membrane apparatus; flat sheet fouling; submerged hollow fiber; membrane sample protocol; flat-sheet fouling data; HPSEC results; colloidal natural organic matter (NOM); and, submerged hollow-fiber. Overall findings included:treatments that reduced most of the dissolved organic carbon (DOC),including "colloidal" very high MW material, prevented short-term fouling of MF; and, treatments that reduced significant DOC butdid not remove "colloidal" components wereunable to prevent fouling. Includes tables, figures.
