This slide presentation outlines information on three options for validation testing. Topics covered include: ultraviolet (UV) reactor validation issues, approaches, costs, and pros/cons; off-site validation at manufacturer facility (case study of Seattle Public Utilities' CedarDesign-Build-Operate Project); off-site validation at test center (case study of Poughkeepsie's (NY) WaterTreatment Facility); on-site validation (case studies of City of Henderson, Nevada and Clayton County Water Authority, Georgia); and a "hybrid" approach (case study of City of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada). Lessons learned include: validation testing is essential to prove UVdisinfection effectiveness;US Environmental Protection Agency published detailed test protocol forimplementation by primacy agencies, with flexibilityfor where validation testing is conducted;test conditions significantly impact operations costs;there are several different options available fortesting, but there is no "one size fits all";selecting approach is important step in projectimplementation; and,site-specific factors will influence the decision.
