Tecumseh Water Treatment Plant Upgrades - Design Issues in the Conversion of a Conventional Filtration Plant to a Membrane Filtration Plant

To comply with Ontario's new water regulations and meet future regulations and water demand, theTown of Tecumseh near Windsor, Ontario, Canada, decided to upgrade their 7.2 USMGD (27.3 ML/D)Tecumseh Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by implementing membrane filtration.This paper discusses design issues in the conversion of a conventional filtration plant to a membranefiltration plant that include: pre-treatment;system flow requirements/staging;plant retrofit;design temperature;cleaning regime;recovery rate;raw water maximum and instantaneous flows;double pumping and power requirements;chemical requirements; and,residue management. Specific examples related to the Tecumseh WTP Upgrades project are presented. Includes 3 references, tables, figures.
