In 2001, the Contra Costa Water District (District) created a new programmaticprocess to improve the District's steel water tanks after inspections identifiedsignificant corrosion and structural degradation in a number of tanks. Theapproach for implementation of this program has been to assess the long-term,overall condition and operational effectiveness of the tanks on a case-by-casebasis but under an overall global view of the twelve steel tanks as a whole, withimprovements prioritized based on the lowest life cycle cost-to-benefit required tobring these facilities to current industry standards.
