This article discusses the current status of the 1996 amendments to the SafeDrinking Water Act. The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has completed all actions required of it to date; however, many new regulations have been issued or are in development. This article lists the new regulations, with special emphasis on improving source water protection; difficult decisions that the arsenic regulation poses; finalization of the radon rule; the successful funding assistance of the State Revolving Fund; infrastructure funding gaps; tort litigation concerns; and, how capacity development will take center stage.
